Why Does My Toilet Keep Running?
A toilet that keeps running after flushing is one of the most common household plumbing complaints - and it's usually one of three things.
1. A worn flapper or valve seal
Inside the cistern, a flapper or valve should seal shut after flushing to let the cistern refill and stop. If it's warped, cracked, or sitting slightly off its seat, water will keep trickling through into the bowl.
2. The float is set too high
If the water level is set too high, it can constantly overflow into the overflow tube, which sounds and looks like the toilet is running continuously.
3. A faulty fill valve
The fill valve controls water coming into the cistern. If it doesn't shut off properly, water keeps flowing, often audible as a constant hiss.
